Local Families to Celebrate New School Year at Community-Wide Back-to-School Fair
Building One Community to Host Back-to-School Fair
Stamford, CT — Building One Community (B1C), The Center for Immigrant Opportunity, will host its Back-to-School Fair on Tuesday, August 18, from 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM at the Lathon Wider Community Center, 34 Woodland Avenue, Stamford, CT 06902. Sponsored by Bank of America, this year's event expands beyond a backpack distribution into a full, program-based celebration ahead of the new school year.
Doors open at 9:30 AM with parent workshops, a resource fair, and activities for kids. B1C and other partner organizations will share information to help families navigate the school system and support their child’s education. Community organizations will provide additional resources and information while tabling at the fair, and snacks will be available for attendees.
This year's program includes participation from:
- Children's Learning Centers (CLC)
- Stamford Public Schools (SPS)
- Stamford Public Education Foundation (SPEF)
- Whole Foods
- INTEMPO
Marissa Muñoz, B1C's Executive Director, spoke on the upcoming fair: “Every child deserves to walk into their first day of school feeling ready and excited. This fair is about more than backpacks — it's about making sure families have what they need to help their kids thrive all year. With Bank of America's support, we're able to give that to more families than ever.”
Fanny Ferreira, B1C's Deputy Director, commented on the importance of events like these: “This celebration is about connecting families directly with the schools, health resources, and organizations that will support their children throughout the year. Alongside partners like CLC, Stamford Public Schools, and SPEF, families see a whole community standing behind their child's success, not just for one day, but for the year ahead.”
