The reality our immigrant families are living is unprecedented. A parent walks their child to the bus stop and wonders if they will be there to see them come home. A family leaves for a routine appointment and fears they may not return together.

This is happening in our community.

Shifting policies and intensifying enforcement are upending lives and dismantling the stability families have worked so hard to achieve. When a parent is detained, a child may come home to an empty home. A paycheck disappears, rent goes unpaid, and another family member must suddenly become the caregiver. In an instant, families lose not only a loved one, but also their sense of safety, security, and hope for tomorrow.

Building One Community (B1C) remains a trusted resource. We are rising to this moment and standing alongside immigrants through whatever comes next.

Our mission has always been to advance the successful integration of immigrant families through English classes, workforce development, youth academic enrichment, and family and legal services.

Today, we are stretching even further by expanding access to legal support and clinics, offering more Know Your Rights trainings and community information sessions, and providing Family Preparedness Workshops that help families understand their options and navigate critical decisions, both in person and virtually. Working alongside community partners, we have also distributed more than 77,000 pounds of food to families facing food insecurity and helped secure other basic needs and mental health services for families in crisis.

We keep our doors open and stand beside families when everything feels uncertain. For Maria, that promise became real when her family had nowhere else to turn, and B1C was there.
