Message from Interim Executive Director and Board Chair
Dear Friends,
For Jessenia, nothing matters more than seeing her children succeed in school. But when she moved to Stamford 19 years ago, language barriers made it hard for her to help with homework or navigate the public school system.
Over time, her children, Anderson (age 11) & Adrian (age 8), began to struggle academically. As much as she wanted to support them, she didn’t have the tools she needed. Then she found Building One Community (B1C)—and everything changed.
She enrolled both of her children in our free Academic Enrichment Program, where they now receive daily after-school support with homework, reading, and writing. The results have been remarkable—her children have gone from struggling to thriving. Anderson even earned a prestigious academic award at school, a milestone his mother credits to the extra support he’s received at B1C. Like most students who attend regularly, they’ve shown significant improvement in their academic skills and confidence.
Her journey hasn’t stopped there. With her children on a stronger academic path, she has taken advantage of other B1C programs—earning her CPR certification and attending workshops that are helping her continue her own education. These opportunities have not only strengthened her skills but also boosted her confidence as an individual.
Backpacks full of dreams lead to brighter futures—and it starts with you. Your generosity turns these dreams into reality. Will you give today so more families like Jessenia’s can achieve their goals and reach their full potential?
With immense gratitude,
Ivonne Zucco, MBA PCC
