STAMFORD — “Our dreams are not illegal,” read one sign. “Dreamers make America great,” read another.
That is the message DACA recipients and their allies were sending Tuesday outside Stamford’s Trump Parc.
Angel Mendoza, 11, of Bridgeport, began the demonstration with a rendition of John Lennon’s “Imagine,” and the crowd joined in.
If there was sadness among them, it wasn’t apparent.
President Donald Trump’s decision to rescind the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, which was announced Tuesday by Attorney General Jeff Sessions, sparked recipients and supporters to speak out against the administration.
DACA is an Obama-era initiative meant to protect from deportation those brought to the U.S. without documentation as children. Trump had until Tuesday to make his decision after attorneys general from 10 conservative states called for the program to be eliminated.
