IMPORTANT CT LEGISLATION REGARDING MINORS
On Wednesday night, the Act Concerning Special Immigrant Juvenile Status was passed in Connecticut, extending the age of a “minor child” from 18 to 21 years old if unmarried and dependent on a competent caregiver. This is of particular relevance to unaccompanied minors who were abandoned, abused or neglected by one or both of his parents but have already turned 18 because they will now be able to apply for protection under federal special immigrant juvenile status. This act will take effect on July 1 2018.
