Four Connecticut nonprofits each received $2 million on Tuesday from the Yield Giving fund, a philanthropic organization created by billionaire MacKenzie Scott.
In all, Scott awarded $640 million to 361 nonprofits — most of which received $2 million — who were all part of an initial group of 6,353 groups that applied for the funding.
The local recipients are Stamford-based Building One Community; Leadership, Education and Athletics in Partnership in New Haven; Compass Youth Collaborative in Hartford and the statewide Journey Home.
Money from the fund was given to organizations "working with people and in places experiencing the greatest need in the United States," according to a press release from Building One Community, which provides an array of programs and services to immigrants. According to the Stamford nonprofit, it has served 17,000 immigrants since its inception in 2011.
