Stamford clinic brings vaccines to immigrant communities

More than 300 Connecticut residents received their first COVID-19 vaccinations Sunday in Stamford at a clinic dedicated to serving immigrants ages 55 and up, including those who are undocumented. The clinic is part of a larger effort statewide to increase vaccination rates among communities of color, who have been particularly hard-hit by the pandemic.

Anka Badurina, executive director of immigrant support center Building One Community — where the clinic was held — said the organization is aiming to provide an easy process for local immigrants to get vaccinated in a place they trust and feel comfortable. Badurina, noting turnout from the Latinx, Haitian and Montenegrin communities among others, said the nonprofit will continue to hold vaccination clinics as more age groups become eligible.
